Its easy to say Annie Hall is Woody Allen's best film. (even though it is and closely followed by Crimes and Misdemeanors) But it earns this praise for how Allen tells this seemingly simple love story.
He uses all of his director's repertoire to his advantage. From, flashbacks to breaking the fourth wall to subtitles to animation. Allen pulls all the stops to craft a warm and lovely film about a neurotic writer and a singer who just happen to fall for each other.
