Woody Allen is the king of the American romantic comedy and his taught 1977 breakthrough remains, to this day, every inch a mini-masterpiece.

Through both character and craft, Allen's film is a cinematic triumph, and one could be forgiven for feeling that there's a small part of neurotic funnyman Alvy Singer in every man; a part craves his very own Annie Hall. However, Allen's film isn't only wonderfully perceptive, it's a stylistically ambitious standout feature of its decade, well ahead of its time, brimming with endless influence and effortless charm. Allen's wry humour and raw romance make for bittersweet bliss at its best.
