Review of Annie Hall (1977) by Nikola B — 25 May 2015
Woody Allen creates a comedic masterpiece by excessively using words to describe the space and emotion of a particular situation. Every action might easily occur in everyday life and his way of perceiving it is highly neurotic and overly critical, thus making it hilarious.
Breaking the forth wall has never seemed so natural. Alvy, the character Woody Allen plays, possesses great intelligence and his comedic timing is exceptional. He encourages people to strive for something better but assures them that no matter what they will always be miserable. He also contradicts himself when he feels left out by the ones he helped.
The flashbacks are unexpected and fit incredibly well into the progressing story, without causing any chronological confusion.
Diane Keaton delivers a marvelous performance, displaying unique comedic and vocal skills. Her character is the perfect half that temporarily completes Alvy.
"Annie Hall" is intriguing, innovative, and its quality ages like fine wine.
