Review of Annie Hall (1977) by Caleb C — 12 Sep 2015
After finally seeing this for the first time, I'm not entirely certain what all the fuss is about. I also believe, I need to watch it again to gain a different perspective from my initial hype for it.
Yes, this was a very well made movie on every level. Did I love the characters though? Not entirely. But I also know that's part of the point to this story. There is a lot of deeper levels to life and how we all are in here.
We aren't meant to fall in love with these characters, we're meant to go on the actual journey with them through it and from a genuine and sometimes rediculous perspective of Woody Allen. I assume this was a personal and somewhat true to life story based on one of Woody's actual relationships because a lot of what is here doesn't feel entirely made up and quite true to life.
It is comical sometimes as well as frank and disective. I do understand why a lot of people love this movie, but after my first view, I can only say that I did have a lot of love for it but it's definitely not my favorite of Allen's work.
