Review of Annie (2014) by Elisa K — 22 Jan 2015
I LOVED this movie! I can't believe so many people didn't like it. The story of Annie has consistency issues - true. They don't address the disparity or how hard it is to get ahead - true. They don't address the struggles of black americans - true. But the DO do a fantastic job of updating Annie to modern day - everything! The music is wonderfully updated. The songs are re-woven into fun, singable songs for the whole family. My two boys (8 and 6) love the movie and the music. The characters were chosen beautifully and work together to show how Annie would be in this day and time. I love the way race is integrated. It isn't the issue. We are all equally as likely to succeed and equally as likely to fail. Foxx also helps Wallis realize her dreams are hers to achieve. Isn't that what it is really all about.
Haters - stay away. This film is wonderful!!
