Review of Annie (2014) by Kelita R — 21 Mar 2015
A must see for Annie fan.
This movie is an excellent example of a well made modernized remake. I'm not familiar with the original Broadway versions, but this film is less of a musical than the classic 1982 motion picture, if I remember correctly. I think the topics and issues addressed in the film are far more relevant to todays world, and the songs are refreshingly upbeat. Although I think the term "hard knock" should have been replaced with a contemporary lingo.
In good spirits with stage performances, the acting was for the most part, over-the-top, which only added to the fun and energetic feel.
I would have preferred the character of Grace be played by a black or Latino woman, but Rose Byrne was certainly wonderful. Also, I felt like the dog was only there as a leftover. Can we not just scrap the dog, since it doesn't really have any significant role or purpose in the story, please?
