Review of Anna Karenina (2012) by Amanda O — 09 Sep 2013
This movie is perhaps the dictionary definition of love-it-or-hate-it. Steer far clear if you don't like period movies, and give it a chance if you do. The amount of effort put into bringing the story to life in a bold new way is staggering and commendable.
I loved the staging and theatricality of this interpretation, it felt fresh and epic, which is ironic given the confines of a theater. Each actor is perfectly cast and lead by a never-better Knightley, but the real star here is the stunning production and costume design, gorgeously presented by flawless cinematography.
