There are some very bad special effects at the end of this film which seem out of keeping with the immaculate detail of the first nine tenths. ignore them. they may have been the result of that ultimate film evil - test marketing.

sumptuous and disturbingly delightful. great casting from the leads to the bit players. a peaen to alan parker's intermittent greatness.
