Review of Angel-A (2005) by Elaine M — 16 Mar 2008

Another work of art from the finest french filmaker around, tells the story of shit-struck lifeless Andre and the turnaround his life experiences when he meets the towering blonde stranger, Angela, who reveals herself to be not the most ordinary of beings and sets out to help Andre sort through his mess of a life.

The plot has a tint of silliness to it, but it doesn't really matter. In the end it's a stunning film, perfectly cast with some priceless dialogue and arty visuals. And that finale? Wow, well it has it all- the soppy soundtrack, dramatic tears, romantic setting, ALL the sopfest cliches, and yet it's captivating and extremely poetic.

It does end about 3 times which is annoying but still, beautifully directed with a kickass main character (Angela)...
