Many of Will Ferrell's films are hit-and-miss with me, but 'Anchorman' is an instant classic, with a level of absurdity approaching the best spin-off comedies from SNL's '70s heyday.

The fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants aspect to things produces a lot of quotable lines, but puts the story second -- again, like most of the stuff Bill Murray's been in over his career. Another big plus is Ferrell's comedic support here, including veteran "Married.

.. with Children" star Christina Applegate (who matches the boorish Ron Burgundy in every scene), and Steve Carell as the mentally-challenged weatherman, Brick. Lots of amusing cameos, too.
