Review of An Officer and a Gentleman (1982) by The Critic ( — 28 Feb 2012
Taylor Hackford's iconic romantic drama quickly engages its audience and ensues its characters develop and are cared for. Richard Gere, whose role has some similarities with Montgomery Clift's Robert Prewitt in "From Here to Eternity" (1953), is a captivating lead, and his varying relationships with those around him make up the dramatic driving force of the story.
The highest kudos, though, belong to Louis Gossett, Jr. (in an Academy Award-winning performance) and David Keith who never falter.
