Review of An Officer and a Gentleman (1982) by Jess M — 17 Apr 2013
Richard Gere plays the cocky but likeable Zack Mayo, set on becoming a navy pilot and winning the heart of Paula Pokrifi (Debra Winger). As Zack completes the officer training course, he is pushed to his physical and emotional limits by the drill sergeant, faces personal tragedy in the loss of a close friend and, to this viewer anyway, becomes increasingly human.
This film is a classic. It won't appeal to everyone of course but the engaging story, strong lead performances and unforgettable score made it highly watchable for me and I can recommend it.
