Review of An American Werewolf in London (1981) by Michael S — 16 Sep 2010
What a great movie from the 80's. It's taken me all these years to finally watch the movie from beginning to end, and it was worth it. Ok, so I have seen most of it here and there, but I really enjoyed the movie as a whole. Yes, it has the 80's effects that, at the time, were herald as something great and amazing. I still think that they hold up, but I also was brought up in a world pre-CGI.
The movie centers around a backpacker who is attacked and his friend killed by a werewolf. What follows is a slow spiral into insanity and acceptance that he is in fact, this beast.
Add Griffin Dunne in a his dead friend who makes frequent visits, and you got yourself a fun film. Yes, it's fun. It's very dark in it's humor but that's just fine.
If you are looking for a fun horror movie of sorts, this might do you well.
