Review of An American Werewolf in London (1981) by Dan B — 09 Nov 2011
That rarest of things, a comedy horror that doesnâ(TM)t let either genre get in the way of the other. Excellent performances, a cracking script, some genuine scares (not least of which is the sequence in my beloved Tottenham Court Road tube station), and of course Rick Bakerâ(TM)s gory effects which still look great after 30 years and achieve a physicality in the transformation scene that CG has yet to match.
Add to that a fearless gut-punch ending and you have a film that's pretty damn near perfect.
