Review of An American Tail (1986) by Milly M — 13 Jan 2009
This is a simple movie with a very straightforward, almost cliche, storyline. A mouse family moves to America hoping for a better life. Along the way, Fievel gets lost and spends the remainder of the movie searching for his family. There is a happy ending, of course, since it's a children's movie. One part of the movie that stands out is when Fievel and his sister are simultaneously singing "Somewhere out there." It's a nice song, and the scene and the singing voices are well done. I just had to wonder at its appropriateness though, given their brother-sister relationship.
Overall, this might be a good movie to sit your 4 year old down in front of while you read a book on the couch. Don't expect it to be gripping emotionally, or dazzling in any way though.
