Review of An American Tail (1986) by Lindsay W — 29 Jun 2013
I don't recall watching An American Tail as a child, and that perhaps is the most telling. Although it has some really well written songs, they are hard to listen to since pretty much everyone is off-key.
Most of the voice actors have truly irritating voices, not the least being Fievel himself. The mice seem constantly to be falling everywhere or being carried away by water, making the peril very unvaried to the point where although there is a lot of action I was often bored.
The animation style was very bleak and made the picture seem flat. There are some interesting allegories, and a few memorable moments, but all-in-all I find An American Tail lackluster.
