Review of An American Tail (1986) by Mark L — 22 Jul 2017
If I really had to choose between this film or The Great Mouse Detective (Both films came out in the same year, 1986), I would definitely watch The Great Mouse Detective FIRST! I say first because this film is also almost equally as good.
But I think my biggest problem with this film compared to The Great Mouse Detective is the characters. With the exception of Tiger (Dom De Luise did an amazing job performing him), none of the characters are at all remembered due to poor development, or to only having them very minor (Heck at one point I forgot the Mousekewitzes had a third child!) But the Narrative, along with the very strong emotional plot holds it up.
And the Animation is by far the best that Don Bluth has offered (Along with his other 80's work that is). Overall, for my personal taste, it needs some learning from The Great Mouse Detective. But it is still nonetheless a good film with some moments of excitement.
Recommended for those who love talking mice, or to those who are interested in the more slow-paced aspect of Animation.
