Review of An American Crime (2007) by Gabriel K — 03 Jan 2011
After being somewhat disappointed by "The Girl Next Door", I sought out this movie in hope of finding a better story of Sylvia Likens. Unfortunately this movie is a complete train wreck, even by made-for-cable standards.
The director clearly has no clue what he's doing - even Catherine Keener and Ellen Page can't save this movie. A film school student probably would have done a better job. The idiotic "dream sequence" towards the end was laughable and completely out of place, if he was trying to generate some suspense, this was certainly not a way to do it.
Perhaps some day a movie will get made doing Sylvia Likens' story justice, until then, skip this poor excuse for a movie.
