Review of An Affair to Remember (1957) by Kevin R — 21 Mar 2015
Help me. Turn the boat around.
A couple meet on a cruise ship and quickly become smitten with each other. They spend every moment they can together. Unfortunately, the cruise has to end and the couple needs to return to real life. They're both engaged to be married. The couple agrees to meet at the Empire State Building six months after the cruise. How much can life change in six months? Will it be too much for this short term fling to become permanent?
"What makes life so difficult?".
"People.".
Leo McCarey, director of Going My Way, Love Affair, Once Upon a Honeymoon, Duck Soup, The Milky Way, and Let's Go Native, delivers An Affair to Remember. The storyline for this picture is entertaining and contains brilliant characters and circumstances. The film is more complex than it appears and unfolds well. The cast is awesome and includes Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.
"Do you get results with a line like that?".
I came across this on Netflix and had to add it to my Wish List. I am a huge Cary Grant fan and adored him in this picture. The couple does struggle through tough times and it is depicted so well. I strongly recommend seeing this if you're a fan of the greats.
"He loved beautiful things.".
Grade: B+.
