Review of Amy (2015) by Prentice S — 18 Sep 2015
Easily one of the best music documentaries I've ever seen, "Amy" incorporates a massive amount of raw material in order to play out all aspects of the tragic Amy Winehouse's short life.
Winehouse is a member of the infamous "27 Club," but she is an enigma: rather than dying in the late 60's/early 70's, she lived during a time when parents recorded everything, from home videos, to talent shows, all the way through her short-lived era of fame.
Endless videos of her with family, friends, and loved ones provide for an insightful glance into Amy's life. In "Amy," we see her successes and her failures, her virtues and her vices, but above all, we see her live and we see her die.
This documentary beautifully paints an unbiased picture of Winehouse's life and, unlike most music documentaries, this one really hits home.
