Review of American Sniper (2014) by Kevin R — 19 Jul 2015
I need you here.
Chris Kyle is an older enrollee into the Navy Seals that is eager to serve his country by using his superb marksmanship as a sniper. He is one of the most recognized snipers and protectors of American troops with over 160 kills. But each mission in the Middle East weighs heavier on his family life at home putting his personal life at risk.
"Do you drink?".
"Only when I'm thirsty.".
Clint Eastwood, director of Million Dollar Baby, Grand Torino, Unforgiven, Changeling, Mystic River, Pale Rider, Bronco Billy, and The Outlaw Josey Wales, delivers American Sniper. The storyline for this picture is very compelling and patriotic. The drama is well portrayed and Cooper was perfect as the main character. There were also solid performances by Sienna Miller, Kyle Gallner, Ben Reed, Elise Robertson, and Luke Sunshine.
"If you leave again, I don't think we'll be here when you get back.".
We grabbed this from Red Box the other day since it was so highly regarded by just about everyone. I thought it was well written and executed. It isn't the perfect war movie; I thought it was on par with Jar Head but a step down from classics like Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, and Full Metal Jacket, but it is still worth a viewing.
"You have to make it back to us, okay?".
Grade: B.
