Review of American Sniper (2014) by Andrew M — 12 Sep 2015
The inability to differentiate the real story of Chris Kyle to the story of American Sniper will forever hinder the film's critique. Despite what most people can't seem to grasp, it does not serve as a pro-war propaganda film.
American Sniper focuses more on Chris' allegiance to family, where that be his at-home family or his military family. His refusal to give up leads to his mental destruction, as he cannot save every Marine under his watchful eye.
The very thing that drives him nearly destroys his most prized possession, his family; along with killing two of his closest friends. Even after following the crusade to the end, he is not met with the satisfaction he was promised since as early as his upbringing.
This inevitably leads to the full character? arc, that allows Chris to part ways from his sheepdog mentality.
