Review of American Animals (2018) by Money G — 30 Jun 2018
This should never have been made into a movie. There is no driving motive between the characters except for boredom and that is a theme left unexpressed by the filmmakers. Spencer expresses that all artists had moments of pain in their lives, and then he moves to inflict pain on others.
He was talented and complacent so he chose to switch things up by stealing. This could potentially be a movie that captures the feeling of being born with money, making a societal reflection about what a lack of struggle can cause.
Instead it says nothing of value and just shows white collar kids having a hard time with going to college because it's boring. This movie could have utilized the appearance of a bird to mean something metaphorically.
That proves to be too hard for these writers. Next, the execution of tension building starts from the beginning. This would be fine if the movie didn't make viewers wait for the "heist" for nearly 90 minutes.
When the scene actually happens, it's sad and not worth any time, much less any money. Don't see this.
