Review of America: Freedom to Fascism (2006) by John W — 13 Dec 2007
Excellent. Whether or not this is true, which it is so hard to tell these days with almost anything, the fact that this movie brings up a thoughtful question about government makes it worth seeing. That being: Is there a law that says we must pay federal income tax? According to this movie there isn't. And Russo gives quite a thourough examination into this subject contacting people from the IRS, examinging the constitution, and citing court cases.
However; is this really true. Being in video myself I know how it is very easy to make things appear one way when they are actually completely opposite. This includes some of the interviews he conducts where you can see where cuts were made that edit what people are saying.
Am I still going to pay my income tax after watching this movie? Probably. But if I researched this myself and found what Russo says to be true you can bet there is no way I would be paying that tax.
Obviously this movie is hard to get your hands on. You can bet they don't rent this at blockbuster, hollywood video, or really any video store. I managed to get a copy through netflix (which is the only place I've been able to find it for rental, and I have searched thourouly). But this movie is more than worth the effort of seeing. It is easy enough to walk through this world without questioning, sometimes we must stop and think and look at a different perspective. Check this one out.
