Review of Amélie (2001) by Keenan S — 20 May 2013
I remember when I was younger when this film was newer and the cover always caught my eye whenever I was at a video store. I would always pick up the box and look at it because of Audrey Tautou's hypnotic gaze.
However, I forgot about the film until it came up as a recommendation when I was browsing IMDB...and then I forgot about it again. Finally, when I was wandering around a Barnes & Noble, I found the film and I finally decided to buy it and watch this film whose cover caught my eye years ago.
I'm sure as hell glad I decided to take the plunge and watch it, because Amelie is one of the best comedies and films I've ever seen. Every aspect of its creation is flawless from the darkly humorous writing, the quirky characters, the brilliant acting, the stunning visual look, the music, and everything else about it.
I was engaged, I laughed a lot, I loved the strange characters, and I found it to be inventive and unique. This film is a real breath of fresh air not only as a romantic comedy (Especially when compared to the numerous turds in this genre I've subjected myself to), but also just as a film by itself because I have never seen anything like it.
It's a truly magical and wondrous romantic comedy that is flawless, in my opinion. If you love not only a good romantic comedy, but also a good film, you must see Amelie, I cannot stress that enough.
