Review of Amélie (2001) by Joey S — 24 Mar 2013
Amélie is a colorful, upbeat comedy with enough cheerfulness and charm for ten movies. Audrey Tautou stars as the eponymous character Amélie, who has such a joie de vivre that she spends all of her time improving the lives of everyone around her through carefully thought-out strategies.
Tautou is absolutely spectacular and she makes the movie doubly fun with her pitch-perfect performance. She lights up the screen in every scene she's in with her joyful demeanor, and it's hard not to love her selfless, carefree character.
The entire movie is so optimistic and playful that I can't imagine someone not enjoying it. Amélie is the kind of feel-good escapist movie that can make your day that much brighter, and its whimsical style will make you wish it didn't have to end.
