Review of Amarcord (1973) by X. T — 25 Jun 2007
I wanted to like this film more, but some of the jokes in it falls flat for me. The surreal scenes are not as poetic as the ones in 8 1/2 but extravagant and indulgent nontheless. The episodic structure is pretty typical of Fellini.
I loved the use of color. You can say that the entire film is more of a cartoon, maybe that's why the Criterion cover is like that. My least favorite Fellini, though it's still very enjoyable.
