Review of Alphaville (1965) by Easter K — 14 Nov 2007
"everything has been said provided words do not change their meanings or meanings their words." a haunting view of a fascist future. gilliam must've taken a lot of inspiration from this film to form brazil, though that's more of a 1984, communist vision of the future.
it's a sci-fi film without the bells and whistles, which I think makes it more powerful in its message than any lucas or ridley scott concoction of the future where you can hide in the design. godard again succeeds when he's breaking the rules but the romance element suffers because the heart comes secondary.
