Review of Alphaville (1965) by Mitchell Y — 06 May 2007
A very striking commentary on New Wave filmmaking, more powerful if viewed in context of the history that surrounds it. Godard's directing is a master achievement of editing and understated performaces.
Very Orwellian at times and quasi-science fiction, which was eerie and kept one on one's toes. The strange narrator voice of Alpha 60 was genuinely creepy and the whole setting of a galactic empire that looked exactly like 1960's Paris worked better than it should have.
