Review of Alligator (1980) by Private U — 11 Apr 2008
Very effective and memorable monster film in the vein of Jaws and Piranha. Deft touches of humor and social commentary elevate this one above the rest of the nature run amok pack. Robert Forster is very compelling as the cop with the troubled past and the constant worries of alopecia.
The pre-CGI effects are pretty good too and the titular beast is, if not always credible, pretty cool to look at.
A very entertaining effort and a nice DVD release also.
