Review of Allied (2016) by Gillian E — 27 Nov 2016
After watching some fantastic war films on Netflix produced in Britain and Europe, which really captured the essence of the era I wondered if Hollywood would ever be to do the same and it appears not. I could give a list of inaccuracies in portraying the period but the worst has to be the scene where there is a party in a London suburb, for refugees, where there were lights on everywhere and they were partying outside with loud music, despite the obvious wartime blackout, guests were snorting cocaine and lesbians were openly kissing.
This just would not have happened in the suburbs in 1943. Also Brad Pitt was totally unconvincing as a pilot as he refused to salute or say 'Sir' to his superiors most of the time. Very disappointing and I will be sticking to Netflix in future.
Having said this it may please American audiences who appear to believe anything so no wonder they voted for Trump.
