Review of All the President's Men (1976) by Tedd P — 17 Dec 2012
Most of the time with films based on true stories, you find yourself engaged, but only because Hollywood is quietly pulling the strings and filtering out all the extraneous detail that separates boring fact from exciting fiction.
This is not one of those movies. All the President's Men is so riveting, pinpoint-accurate and endlessly watchable that it has become as referenced over time by those wanting to understand the Watergate scandal as any novel, archival footage or living witness.
Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford join forces to spawn one of the greatest detective teams in film history, and the razor-edged writing earns its Oscar less than halfway in. Perfect journalism, meet perfect filmmaking.
