Intriguing insight into an event I have airbrushed from my history repertoire - The Watergate Scandal that brought about the resignation of then United States President Richard Nixon in August 1974.

The scandal was unearthed largely thanks to reporters at the Washington Post newspaper Robert Woodward (Robert Redord) and Carl Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman) and it is their story that forms the main structure of the film.

Made in 1976 in an analogue world before even the most basic desktop computers and cellular phones we see the inner workings of a newsroom with its noisy typewriters and rotary telephones.

The two and a half hour runtime should provide hope to some and a warning to others how the mighty inner circle of the U.S. Government can be brought down.

Redford and Hoffman deliver excellent performances as the two hacks who literally won't take no comment as an answer in their reporters notes.

The film was rightly recognised with several awards and award nominations.

Director Alan J. Pakula delivers a suspenseful film despite the outcome being ultimately known.
