A musical for people who hate musicals. People wrongfully complain that All That Jazz is too "abstract" or "drawn out" for "their tastes." Well, there's not too much to say for your overly conventional tastes then, is there? If you want convention, amuse yourself with whatever tripe Hollywood is pumping out these days and if you want brevity, then watch a children's movie.

However, if you dislike like the average musical for misusing the power of music and dance to sappy and sentimental ends, and if you appreciate the understated genius of Roy Scheider's acting, then prepare yourself for a hallucinatory ride through life, death, reality and fantasy.

If you're willing to keep an open mind, this "musical" will reward you with great cinematography, choregraphy, characterization, and nothing short of a thematic struggle between life and death.

If you're not, well there's always "Brigadoon.".
