Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) by Pj P — 19 Apr 2009
It's hard to believe this was made in 1930 as far as the poignant imagery and story are concerned (acting is what you'd expect). Just a great war film with memorable characters and a unique outlook from the German side, have to agree there was a great job done on the restoration.
World War I is unique and tragic and cannot be glorified with tommy guns, CGI blood or macho good guys and bad guys, everyone was a victim of a needless war and this film is the closest I've seen to encompass all that and present something so engrossingly watchable.
