Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) by Dave R — 06 Feb 2011
In this film we see a bunch of idealistic young men encouraged to go off a fight for their country. they enlist and thus begins their education about real life and the horrors of war. one by one the boys meet their fates...
A pretty amazing movie considering when it was made, 1930 - 12 years after WW1. it explores many of the issues that combat vets face. idealism may be the catalyst but eventually realism takes over. the battle scenes are quite good while the acting is, by today's standards, lacking in emotional depth. there are some really good scenes such as when there is a lull in the battle and the men have some down time they speculate on their situation: why are they here killing people they don't know? why are those men trying to kill them?
