Review of All About Eve (1950) by Chris D — 24 Feb 2012
Fantastic performances by all involved makes "All About Eve" more than just your typical clever film whose subject concerns the saying "you can't get to the top without stepping on a few people". Bette Davis is particularly dazzling as Margo Channing, a middle-aged theater superstar who takes interest (and perhaps a bit of pity) in Eve Harrington, an almost fanatical fan.
I don't want to give away any of the story, but I was really surprised and how the plot unfolded, and I had not expected some characters to be vilified while others were vindicated. I don't know if you could call it a twist, but when the plot did take a turn 2/3s of the way through, I was shocked at how thoroughly I had been deceive (as had some of the characters!) This is a classic dramedy, and a true treasure for anyone that enjoys a good drama with an excellent plot.
