Review of Alive (1993) by Osamah S — 17 Apr 2008
It is very difficult to rate this film, because this true story is told very well, and the acting is at times brilliant from a young Ethan Hawke; the images picturesque whilst gruesome at the same time.
It is almsot like the perfect film, except that at the end, the director deliberately decides not to show us the ending, and just gets his main actor to narrate it. I am with all that to a certain degree, however I had deeply sunk in the film and didn't want to leave it at that.
The film kept getting better, and although it had it's very early 90's low-tech moments and cheesy lines, which could have been worked on a little more, it still maintained its structure and drive.
One of the films that is sad, yet hopefull at the same time - this film has and will continue to stand the test of time. I only wish it was made with a little more detail to get the full five. Four Stars.
