This film brilliantly uses the same suspense-building tactics that worked so well for the original. However; instead of building to horror, it builds to action. This important distinction makes for perfect sequel material.
It takes Ripley's story in new and exciting directions, while maintaining her core character and giving us whole new colorful cast of characters to root for.
