Review of Aliens (1986) by Rocknblues 8 — 01 Feb 2014
Modern movies don't get much better than this. This is one of James Cameron's three classics (The Terminator, T2)and it's really stood the test of time. Some prefer the original, but I think this one is simply more entertaining movies despite some occasional cheesy dialogue (Often coming from Bill Paxton)that pops up throughout the film. But it's blockbuster dialogue and you expect that from Cameron.
While the original did have a more Sci-Fi feel, it failed to develop it's characters. Which it had plenty of time to do. Here, this movie is completely successful in filling out it's running time with great suspense and action. The performances aren't half bad considering it's an action blockbuster. Both Michael Biehn and horror icon Lance Henriksen deliver well in their roles. Although I will admit that Biehn's role isn't as meaty as The Abyss or The Terminator, but it's still nice to have him here.
The series of course took a nose dive after this one, but the first two are easily classics that have and will continue to stand the test of time and continue to prove that James Cameron is one of the master's of blockbuster film making.
