Review of Aliens (1986) by Dylan W — 20 Aug 2016
Follow up directed by James Cameron to the 1979 film Alien which I rated very mediocre the other week.
The film in reality was released some 7 years after the original but the story is set some 57 years later!
The budget is certainly beefed up from the original as can be seen from the special effects and production design.
Cameron certainly adds some elements from his other most famous franchise The Terminator.
Enough of the comparisons, now let's look at the film in isolation.
The casting includes Lance Henrikson as another very human android (Bishop). Terminator veteran Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton and Jeanette Goldstein whose character owes more to the Expendable franchise.
The Aliens themselves are certainly more 'illustrious' with some good special effects (pre CGI) from Stan Winston.
The star of the film is Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley. She is sent back to planet LV 426 from the first film as some sort of consultant to a bunch of cocky Marines but soon starts to take control of life threatening situations.
An excellent sequel. In fact one of those rare instances where the sequel is far better than the original.
