Review of Alien Resurrection (1997) by Bryce I — 18 Apr 2011
This film surprisingly triumphed over both Aliens and Alien 3 - in that it stopped trying to interpret or replicate the original and just went completely mental. And it is consequently hit-and-miss, with particularly horrible dialogue at times, but additions to the Alien mythology felt.
.. right. It ended as swiftly as it ran for the 108 minutes it used up, and there was no boring sections. Some scenes were shocking (see: failed ripleys) and some hilarious (see: Leland Orser's death), and in the end it felt like Jeunet didn't care.
And the funny thing is that it was much less of a 'slap in the face' to the franchise than Aliens. It felt a little like a celebration, or a comic book adaptation (Whedon!).
