Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Jak-Luke S — 23 Jul 2017
Half Prometheus and half 1979 Alien, Scott does return to the roots that made the franchise great. However, in doing so he undermines both films mythology and impact, especially that of the finale of Prothemeus which is just mere backstory and exposition in this entry and will annoy much of his audience.
Performances are strong, Fassbender, McBride and Waterston are all standouts with Crudup and Bichir also showcasing some great range and talent. The script at times and the dialogue in particular is poor, and the climax is rather short and sweet but ultimately one step closer to Scott's intended end-game.
