Review of Alice in Wonderland (1951) by Adrian B — 29 May 2011
It's a passable movie, but one that I cannot say is great or even that good. Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" is of course an animated take on Lewis Carroll's famous story of girl who has an active imagination and wants to be part of a nonsense universe.
Although, this imaginery universe goes way over the top and becomes a frightening dream sequence of events. Although I like some of the animation and songs, there are a lot of flaws within this Disney film.
First off, the story is too episodic and all over the place. Two, Kathryn Beaumont, who provided the voice for Alice, doesn't sing very well. I would have suggested a vocal coach. Three, I find most of the characters not only unlikable, including Alice, but quite annoying.
In fact, I liked the Queen the best. Finally, I don't know if kids would find this engaging this all that fun to watch. It doesn't rank in the same league as Pinocchio or Snow White or Dumbo that are more suited for children.
It does have some charm and I have to admit I like the teacup soundtrack (since it is attached to a fun ride in Disneyland). Other than that, this is not one of Disney's best.
