Review of After the Wedding (2006) by Elaine M — 08 May 2008
A very peculiar experience, which I've decided I quite enjoyed, although it took some real thinking to come to any sort of conclusion. This movie just comes out of nowhere- it is completely contextless and purposeless, but in a good way.
The acting is terrific, especially from Mikkelsen, but some of the scripting is far too soppy and the melodrama just gets tedious. The plot isn't madly original: man finds out he has daughter, daughter wants to get to know new father, man she thought was father is holding secret which changes everything etc.
Maybe it won't blow your mind, but somehow it's quite charming, and very scandinavian...
