Review of Ae Fond Kiss... (2004) by Leena L — 11 Apr 2008
My lowest ranked Loach film. Was just all so predictable. Despite the male protagonist's wishy-washiness and his meanness from time to time, the liberated Irish lass sticks around because it is "easy" being with him.
Casim was so pathetic that he would deliberately apply a double standard to his little sister, Tahara, who only wanted to be able to go to a good school to study journalism. He was not a convincing person for someone like Roisin to fall in love with and keep forgiving over and over.
The characters were so uneven that the only thing that Casim and his (other selfish) sister, Rukhsana, could hold against Roisin was that she could not "tell" them how long her love would last.
The story just did not work for me.
