Review of Advantageous (2015) by Jeremy S — 03 Jul 2015
This degree of emotional nuance is uncommon in films in general and strikingly absent in sci-fi. What others would ham handedly use exposition to accomplish Phang captures with uncomfortable silences and glances that convey more than dialog ever could.
I would have given it a full 5 stars but found the idea that someone as influential and connected as the main character being utterly rudderless after losing her job a bit hard to believe. Even so this is a great example of how sci-fi in film is maturing and I very much look forward to more from this writer/director.
