Review of Adulthood (2008) by Martin K — 06 Aug 2008
Sequel to "Kidulthood" and a distinct improvement over its predecessor. This film has a much sharper focus, centring as it does on Sam on the day of his release from prison for the crime committed at the end of the first film.
While it still has a large ensemble, this time they're all working towards a single purpose. And while that purpose may seem to be revenge, the ultimate message points up what a shallow pursit that really is.
Debut director (as well as writer/star) Clarke has a few overly-stylistic touches on show but otherwise this is a powerful (and timely) work...
