Review of Adulthood (2008) by Dylan E — 27 Jul 2011
Following on from the surprisingly good Kidulthood, Adulthood had a lot to live up to. Unfortunately instead of bringing innovative new ideas to this film it relies on the successes of the previous film, but instead of seeing them improve and add to the new story it just feels like they were carelessly thrown in to give audiences an inter-contextual kick.
Seeing Moony battle his daemons from the last film should have been a gripping watch, but thanks to some lack-luster scripting and an average performance from Oyeniran its largely forgettable.
The film is still a good watch, but feels like something we have seen a million times before. Kidulthood followed a young cast, and the story was shocking as a result, the older cast still put up a decent performance, but the subject matter just doesn't cut it.
