Review of Adaptation. (2002) by Zachary H — 20 Feb 2015
Adaptation is a truly insightful, honest and dazzlingly creative film. Charlie Kauffman strips away all previous notions anyone holds about screenwriting and the result is an intimate portrait of his life, insecurities, dreams, and fears in a touching, and at times, seriously funny way.
On top of the beautiful writing and directing, Nicolas Cage in particular delivers possibly the performance of his career, elegantly harnessing the two almost polar opposite personalities of Charlie and Donald.
But technique aside, Adaptation is a seriously heartfelt and moving examination of everything from life on a universal scale to the individual person. Though Kauffman's plight and general outlook on life begin quite bleak, the film grows and evolves to allow tiny beautiful moments, most of them between Nicolas cage.
.....and Nicolas Cage.
